Garage Sale Vs. Estate Sale
Are you considering having a garage sale or an estate sale? Both can be great ways to get rid of unwanted items and make some extra money. But which one is right for you? Here’s a quick guide to help you decide.
What’s the purpose? If you’re looking to make a little extra money and get rid of some things cluttering your house, then a garage sale is perfect. A garage sale is perfect for cleaning out the basement or garage, selling basic household goods and items that are no longer needed but are in good enough condition that someone else could find use in.
People ask me all the time; what can I sell at a garage or estate sale? My answer is always the same: anything that you purchased once, someone else will purchase from you. Everything you have ever bought can be sold again as long as it is in good condition.
I often look at garage sales as a good way to just clear out no-longer-needed items. You are going to price things at prices you feel are fair and let the items go so that you have more space and freedom. A garage sale is not really a way to maximize profits from the items in your home, but more a way to be free from stuff by selling whatever you can for as much as you can.
If you want to maximize revenue for all of the items in a home, then an estate sale is more up your alley.
An estate sale is when an entire house or a large portion of household items need to be sold, and it can include furniture, antiques, art, jewelry, appliances, electronics, and more. It is best to hire an estate sales company when everything in the home is to be sold as this eliminates all stress, effort, and work and can leave you with a home that is broom-swept empty and ready for its next phase.
An estate sales company will handle everything from start to finish. They will come in and evaluate the items, set up their tables and display cases, organize everything in the home, price all items, do all of the advertising, conduct the sale and handle all transactions and customers. Once the sale is over, they can even load everything up and take it away to donate or trash so you don’t have to do a thing!
The process of an estate sale involves a lot of planning and organization. Every project we take on has its own complexities and challenges so we work with our clients to make sure the estate sale process goes smoothly and that the best result is obtained.
The reason why I say that an estate sale is the best way to maximize revenue for all items inside of a home is that even though you are going to be paying a commission to the estate sale company, we are working on your behalf to get the most money for the items. We have the experience and research capabilities to evaluate and price thousands of items in a short amount of time, do the advertising to get the best buyers, and have over 10 years in building relationships with estate sale shoppers.
